Welcome to the launch of my new blog, On The Plus Side Of Style! It is a plus size style and weight loss blog. Here I will be chronicling my weight loss journey in trying to lose 145 pounds as well as my style transformation along the way!
There will be laughs, tears, rants, many pictures of my head superimposed on bodies, shared dreams, fears, successes, the occasional or not so occasional failure, and lots & lots of truth. I hope this is a place where others feel comfortable sharing their own journeys too. There is nothing like bringing people together to express themselves about issues that they believe in.
My weight loss journey began in 2012, along with my first blog, Vanilla Tweed. I shared my 40 lb weight loss journey ( 2012) and then kind-of shared my 40 pound weight re-gain (because who really wants all of those dirty details). Now I am sharing my new weight loss adventure as of January 2014! My weight loss efforts consist of healthy eating and exercise. No hot dog diet, no liposuction, no slimming soap here… no sir! Just plan old hard work the old fashion way! I would like to think that I am just a regular girl trying to lose weight, which makes me feel like a crazy girl at times, but for those of you out there that have tipped your toes in the sea of weight loss you probably know it is not always smooth waters. Sometimes you coast through wondering how you are doing it all so well, and other times you get knocked over, drug out with the surf and get back up with your bathing suit bottoms lodged in your bum! If you are doing it right, weight loss is an adventure… I hope you enjoy sharing in mine!
So, how does plus size style fit into all of this? I have been in plus size clothing since 2000. Things have come a long way, but there is still so much room for improvement in the fashion industry. My hope is to bring to light new resources for finding plus size clothing for women, as well as, showing that sometimes you just have to wear what you want to wear regardless of your size! I’m tired of people, including myself, dictating what I should and shouldn’t wear because of my size. It is bad enough that the fashion industry does it by not having all of the style options that I would like to have, but for people to tell me what I should and shouldn’t wear is not okay! It is one thing for me to choose not to wear something because I personally don’t find it flattering on my figure, it is another thing for someone to assume all plus size women should wear muumuus. (rant #1 complete!)
I also started a Personal Style Business in the Denver/Boulder area last year. It has been amazing to work with women of all shapes and sizes. If there is one thing we all share in common it is that we all have that part of our body we wish was smaller, smoother, bigger, rounder, 6 inches higher… I say… it’s not our bodies fault, it’s the clothing’s fault! If you have ever shopped with me you probably have heard me say…” Blame it on the pants!”
I hope as my weight loss adventure progresses so will my own style transformation. I want to be a little bit bolder, maybe even a bit sexier… oo la la… I want to try new things, just like I encourage my clients do. I guess this will be a documented lesson in leading by example!
I hope you enjoy my new blog and would love it if you shared it with others who might like it too!
I can’t wait to hear from you all!
